Rat Dreams

A recent eLife article revealed that Dr. Hugo Spiers (of University College London) and his esteemed colleagues have managed to determine that rats dream about where they want to go in the future. They accomplished this feat by identifying specific patterns of neuron activity in the rodent brain’s hippocampus region. They claim that the neuron activity patterns when a rat is asleep just before conquering a food maze are similar to those when it awakens and actually gets to the food. Understand? It appeared to these ‘scientists’ that the rodents plotted how to defeat the maze and get to the food…in their ‘dreams.’

                Well, that’s settled then!

I wonder where all they want to go? Heaven? Arby’s? Congress?
