It is one thing to run out of cheese or wine. It is quite
another to run out of time. Time, as they say, is of the essence. 2019 was a
tumultuous year. We live in the most affluent time in history. (Though many,
sadly, don’t know the reasons why). Yet people around the world sense that something
profound is missing-- or wrong. Unfortunately, in most cases, they are right.
Elites the world over, those ensconced in governments, academia, the media and
massive international corporations—as well as dictators like the Iranian
mullahs, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong un-- try ever harder to instruct and control
the rubes, the peasants, the “deplorables” in fly-over country. And some of
them are fighting back.
What
will happen? Where are we headed? Will 2020 be a good or a bad year? Will it be
as tumultuous as 2019 or even more so? Only time will tell. We can tell time,
kill time, waste time, or race time. Everything is a question of time, because,
in some sense, time is everything. And it marches on… regardless of our wishes.
There
is no time like the present. Ask someone who has narrowly avoided death. Time
is a gift. And there is no present like time.
Happy New Year!
