Flags Of Our (Fore)Fathers Now Verboten?

The Minnesota House of Representatives introduced a bill that could penalize cities and counties for not flying the redesigned state flag.

Members of Minnesota's Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) party recently pushed legislation to reduce state aid to a county or city that "flies or otherwise makes use of a state flag other than the design of the state flag as certified in the report of the State Emblems Redesign Commission."

If passed, the bill would go into effect in 2027. The old, traditional state flag was excommunicated-- and the new one ushered in-- on May 11, 2024. The Democrats running the state basically appropriated a Somali flag and told everyone “You will like this!” Objectively, the flag stinks. The old flag had symbols of what made the state unique. The new one is just a post-modern conglomeration of a couple of shapes. It is blue, though, very blue, so it accurately represents the state’s politics. As does its Somali likeness. Personally, I wouldn’t fly the new flag if you paid me. I wouldn’t want it to detract from my Gadsden Flag. But will my Democrat overlords attempt to force me to take down the Gadsden flag and replace it with the new, globally sensitive one? The old flag depicted dates important to the state: a farm field, the Mississippi, forestland, and a nod to its Native American heritage. It was, in that sense, “diverse,” matching the state’s natural geographical diversity. But, apparently, the image of a Native American upon a horse was somehow triggering to the woke zealots now at the helm of the giant insane asylum that is Minnesota.

As I understand it today, the following flags are banned in the erstwhile North Star State: the original State of Minnesota flag, the Gadsden Flag, the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, and the Confederate flag. In addition, there exist several other categories for various flags:

Flags that are “problematic”: Old Glory/the Star-Spangled Banner. That notion won’t fly with me, even if we have been reduced to the home of the formerly free and occasionally brave. I think I’ll add an “Appeal to Heaven” flag to my Gadsden banner.

Flags that are mandated: the new Minnesota state flag.

Flags a government entity, city, person, or organization “should” fly: LGBTQ flag, Trans flag, Palestinian flag.

Flags neither banned nor mandated: The “Betsy Ross” flag, Socialist flag, Communist flag, Anarchist flag.

The flags the radically woke intelligentsia approve of today are not the flags of our fathers. Or our founders. And that is the point.

I will fly the grand, old Minnesota flag, but not the new one. The self-same asshats who proudly assert that the big old federal government can’t tell them what to do as regards sanctuary cities and abortion, equally aggressively assert that they have total, unquestioned control over any city or principality that doesn’t wish to fly the new state flag. But I don’t care for empty emblems. I care even less for politically fraught ones.

So, I will close with this:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

And don’t fly the new ones.
