"Artificial Intelligence" Or "Super Intelligence?"

President Trump recently ordered the federal government to begin referring to the technology formerly known as “Artificial Intelligence,” or “AI,” as “Super Intelligence,” or “SI.”

This immediately prompted California Governor Gavin Newsom to sign an executive order requiring all (formerly) Golden State agencies to continue using the term “Artificial Intelligence.” Or else.

Newsom took to X to let the world know, “I just signed an executive order permanently declaring Artificial Intelligence ‘Artificial Intelligence’ in California.” Talk about intelligence! Gov. Slick added, “Super intelligence is clearly not coming from the White House— that’s why California continues to lead.”

Well, California is leading the nation when it comes to the highest gas prices, the number of homelessness people, and poverty rate. Democrats are hoping to bring that to the nation at large. And, since Democrats are so good at cheating-- and so many Americans are so bad at logic and reasoning-- they’ll probably get their chance.

It is obvious Trump likes to rename things. People, places, concepts, technology. I guess that’s just part of being “a very stable genius.” But Newsom? Well, he’s just exhibiting Pavlovian response. Anything Trump says or does immediately prompts him to reflexively say or do the opposite. In this sense, he is a puppet on a string. TDS? Yes. But also TRS, Trump Response Syndrome.

We have to remember that “Artificial Intelligence” was created by “real,” natural human intelligence. Yet we face two related problems going forward. First, too many people, especially the college educated, exemplify “Stupid Intelligence,” another form of “SI,” in which so much of what they “know” is wrong. Second, most humans, with our inherent biological intelligence, are demonstrably getting dumber and less capable, at precisely the same time Artificial Intelligence is becoming Super Intelligent…on its way to “Stupendously Intelligent.” So, “SI” it is. With all the benefits that will bring. And all the risks.

Looking to the (not-too-distant) future, it is not clear who will be the servant…and who will be the master.
