Recently,
while speaking to podcast host and “comedian” Theo Von, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani once again lauded
Socialism. Von stated of the American Dream:
“It used to feel like if you did enough work, you did this, and you did these
things, you could have a life, you could have an existence… This is a slow
boiling of people’s ability to have peace…” He then went on to talk about
increases in rent outstripping that of income. For the record, it is
progressive policies that have led to substantial increases in rental costs,
whereas it is conservative ones that lead to increases in income and discretionary
spending ability.
Von then asked Mamdani to define Socialism. Mamdani
replied, “Socialism, to me, means
that you will have whatever you need
to live a dignified life, and that it is the government’s job to deliver on
that.” WTF?! How did we get to the point where a clown like this could be taken
seriously, let alone be elected to run the financial capital of the nation…if
not the world. Talk about economic, human, and historical ignorance!
No, government may be able to give you what you
need to survive (free crackpipes?) while simultaneously taking the
fruits of others labor away from them…and robbing you of your drive, dignity,
and dreams. As such, it is doubly pernicious and always leads to poorer and
less free societies-- economically, spiritually, and intellectually.
Government has one overarching function: to
protect every individual’s inherent rights, granted them by the Creator…most
specifically from usurpation by government. These “negative” rights are
sacrosanct. We have the right to life, liberty, and happiness. In other words,
we have the right not to be arbitrarily killed or imprisoned by government…or
to have our property and opportunity taken from us by government. We have the
right to free speech and assembly. The right to protect ourselves by bearing
arms. A right to a jury of our peers. Etc. The government, then, is also
charged with protecting these rights from abuse by others.
There are no “positive” rights, such as the
“right” to be healthy, the “right” to be wealthy, the “right” to be wise, or
the “right” to our neighbor’s property or wife. That isn’t the way life works,
nor should it, whether looked at Biblically, logically, from an evolutionary
perspective, or any other way.
Yet Democrats increasingly disdain our actual,
God-given, inherent (negative) rights in favor of preposterous and illusory
positive ones. They do this because it gives them more power. The less people
are allowed to do for themselves, the more government “must” do for them. The
more government must do for some, the more it must do to others.
Like confiscate their earnings or limit their speech. Or punish them for
objecting to its actions.
So, you can be certain that the more free stuff
politicians promise us, the more they are looking at us like cattle to be
herded and kept, fenced in until we are eventually led to the slaughter.
Whether that be of our liberty, dignity, or person…or all of the above.
