Madison Bergmann-- a 24-year-old
teacher at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wisconsin—was recently charged
with first-degree child sexual assault for allegedly engaging in an
inappropriate relationship with an 11-year-old student of the school. Madison
(a fitting name for a Wisconsonite) was arrested
for the affair, which apparently included “making out” with the youngster.
Police found a
folder containing numerous notes between the two in Bergmann’s backpack. In one
of those notes the teacher stated: “I know we have a special relationship and I
do love you more than anyone in the world but I have to be the adult here and
stop.”
Madison, you are
the adult. And you should have stopped it before it started. An ethical and
sane adult wouldn’t have started
with an 11-year-old. And I don’t want to hear anything about “Minor
Attracted Persons,” or MAPs.
Oh, and Bergmann is engaged to be married in
July. (Hopefully was engaged to be married by now.) How does that guy
feel? The poor soul might need therapy for life. What was she going to tell her
fiancĂ©? “I know he’s only 11, but he’s really mature for his age, mentally and
physically!”
What is it with teachers these days,
especially female ones?! An 11-year-old?! She loves him more than anyone in
the world? And then has to tell him she’s engaged to an adult? He’s closer to wearing
a diaper than to legal drinking age in much of the country! He very likely
hasn’t lost all his baby teeth yet! What was she going to get him for a
birthday gift? Baseball cards, a NERF blaster, and a pair of Keds?
There is a lesson here. But, sadly and
ironically, I’m afraid it’s one that’s lost on many teachers.
