MSNBC host Tiffany Cross recently attacked white truckers as
aggressive, dangerous drivers who overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump. She ranted:
“This is an industry populated by a lot of white men over the age of 55. This
group of people overwhelmingly voted for Trump.
Some people have talked about, you know, aggressive truck drivers cutting them
off or not being helpful. So, obviously, the
more populated it is with people of color, I think you’ll see less of that.”
Memo to Ms. Cross: Stating
or implying that Blacks are better drivers than whites is racist. Stating or
implying that white people—or white truckers-- aren’t as “helpful” as Black
people is racist. Stating or implying that people who (probably) voted for
Donald Trump are aggressive, unhelpful, and poor drivers is bizarre and also makes
you guilty of stereotyping, generalizing, labeling, and marginalizing. And stating
or implying that people over 55 are bad drivers is ageist! And simply
untrue. (Which is partly why auto insurance companies offer “mature driver”
discounts.)
Tiffany Cross is, like
many CNN and MSNBC hosts, by turns remarkably ignorant and stupefyingly
hypocritical.
And repulsively racist. Like
many Biden-supporting, short-haired Black females in their 40s who were born in
Atlanta during February.
