Mark Steyn, while appearing on Fox News Channel’s Tucker
Carlson Tonight, recently likened the left’s accusation that Trump stole
the 2016 presidential election to the “ducking chair” of olden day witchfinders,
noting that the left believes the very fact Trump won the election is ipso
facto proof he stole it.
The
witchfinders’ gig went something like this: Strap a suspected conjurer into a
chair and submerge her underwater for two minutes. If she happens to be alive
when you pull her out, she must be a witch…and should then be burned. If, on
the other hand, she is dead, she’s innocent. However, she’s also dead, which is
not a problem for the witchfinders, but is inconvenient for the
previously suspected—but now posthumously exonerated—pseudo sorcerer.
Similarly,
Democrats now aver that the only way Trump can prove he isn’t cheating
is by losing (the next election). If they can get away with this charade, they
are the enchanters.
