This story has all the
earmarks of a hoax. Let’s fervently hope it is one.
In what is becoming an increasingly frequent- and
distressing- phenomenon, a 68-year-old Florida grandfather recently learned
that he had mistakenly married his biological granddaughter, according to a “floridasunpost.com”
story. Apparently, gramps and his 24-year-old bride tied the knot a little over
three months ago and are currently living in Miami.
According to the site, the couple discovered “the
unfortunate coincidence” as they leafed through one of his old photo albums. The
album included photos of the man’s children from his first marriage, from whom
he had long been estranged. The Post reported that his wife recognized her
husband’s eldest son as being her own father. “When I saw my father in that
photo album, I just felt an overwhelming sense of despair,” she told the paper.
This is the third marriage for the man, according to
the story. His second marriage supposedly ended in divorce in 2009 amidst
financial strife. Two years later, he won several million dollars in a lottery
jackpot. The young woman became estranged from her husband’s son and
daughter-in-law after becoming pregnant as a teenager. She was working as an
exotic dancer in Jacksonville when the pair met through a dating website.
“I just felt strange when I saw her photos [on the
site],” the man said. “It was like a sense of déjà vu, but at the time I
couldn’t figure out why she seemed so familiar,” reported the Post.
According to the post, the couple have not been named
and insist that they have no plans to get a divorce.
“If we’d never found out, we would’ve lived our lives
happily together, and us being related shouldn’t change that,” the man said.

Immediate family members? Who would let a little thing like that get in the way
of marital bliss? Apparently, not a growing number of people, judging by recent
news reports.
I’m sure the facts, if this account is indeed true,
that he’s a multi-millionaire and she was an exotic dancer have nothing to do
with their joint decision to bravely overcome any obstacles in their marriage
path.
All together now: All You Need Is
Love!
Tolerance…pass it on.

(A number of
prominent websites have apparently reported this story as fact. It is, for obvious
reasons, difficult for me to believe… even in the Age of Obama. On the off
chance that it’s true, the above is my take on it).
