These Are Not Your Father's Flags

There are now so many “official” flags of the various component groups of the LGBTG-Pride movement in existence that it’s hard to keep track of them all. There is the basic, garden-variety Rainbow Flag. Also, the Asexual Flag, the Genderqueer Flag, the Pansexual Flag, the Bear Flag, the Bi Pride Flag, the Leather Pride Flag, the Lesbian Pride Flag, the Gay Pride Flag and the Transgender Flag, just to name a few. (If you don’t think I’m serious, Google it/them). I don’t even know what some of them mean, or where they came from.
What I am curious about, as we are about to start running these flags up real, “official” flag-poles, is what would cause LGBTG leaders to lower their flags to half-mast out of sorrow and/or respect, much as the American flag has been flown lately.
Would it be the soaring price of dental dams? The cancellation of “Glee,” “Modern Family,” or “the New Normal?”
What is the proper way to handle these flags? When, exactly, should they be flown?

                Inquiring minds want to know!
