Recently, advocates mounted a
campaign to get California to enact a ban on child marriage. Unfortunately, if
not surprisingly, their efforts are being strongly opposed by progressive
groups like Planned
Parenthood.
Dozens of survivors of forced and/or child marriages traveled to
the California State Capitol in Sacramento in July to protest the state's
existing laws, some clad in wedding dresses-- with their wrists tied and mouths
taped shut.
The erstwhile Golden State was actually potentially on track to
be the first state to pass an absolute ban on marriages for children under 18. Until
the legislative proposal was met with stiff opposition from the likes of the “Children's
Law Center” and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), that is. And Planned
Parenthood.
Why the opposition to child marriage?
Because these groups fear that imposing a legal age requirement on
marriage could lead to—gasp!-- an age requirement for abortion. And this
they cannot countenance, as killing unborn babies is their religion and their raison
d’ệtre.
Ah, I see. If more 15 and
16-year-olds get knocked up, there will likely be more abortions. And even if
the young mothers should decide to keep the rug rats, they’ll be more likely to
need government (Democrats’) assistance. To progressives, that’s a “twofer!”
And young parents will probably be more willing to encourage their kids to undergo
hormone treatments and “sex change” surgeries too, in order to be inclusive and
foster transgenderism. OMG, it
might be a threefer!
