Apple Introducing New Emojis!

The next software update for Apple devices, scheduled to occur later this month, will include the addition of new emojis. Yay! J The new emojis were approved by the Unicode Consortium earlier this year, in conjunction with World Emoji Day, which was celebrated on July 17th, 2017. (I don’t know about you, but I didn’t even get the day off work. I think we should lobby for it to become a paid holiday).
The new icons reportedly include a breastfeeding mom, a Muslim woman in a hijab and a series of gender-neutral faces, depicting kids, adults, and seniors. The latter three sets will feature numerous varieties of each emoji, with different skin and hair colors. Apparently, progressives believe it’s critical that we recognize “gender neutrality,” but would be a crying shame L if we tolerated “race neutrality.”
I say it would be much better if that thinking was reversed.
And, if we’re going to be inclusive, why isn’t there an emoji for a breastfeeding dad? Or, we could really up our game and have one for a gender-neutral Muslim person in a hijab breastfeeding a gender-neutral kid. That’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout! That’s nearly a progressive version of Heaven, if they believed in Heaven. The only thing that could make it better for leftists is if that person was also smoking pot while sporting a “Trump Sucks” button and pointing to a hybrid Prius.
This liberal dream is, of course, just that. For two reasons. First, in practice the icon would have to be way too large to clearly depict all of that. Second, Muslims typically aren’t big on the concept of gender neutrality. Or drugs. Moreover, the gender-neutral Muslim person might be prevented from driving the Prius due to Sharia law, at least on any days that person may identify as female. (Maybe it should’ve been a bicycle).
Leftists, however, never let reality or truth get in the way of a nice dream.
Back in August, LGBT activists denounced Unicode after discovering that its shortlist of new emojis didn’t include bisexual pride flags, asexual pride flags, or trans pride flags. (I know I was aghast! Come to think of it, though, there isn’t a heterosexual emoji flag, either).
Only a tiny fraction of the planet’s population identifies as trans or “non-binary,” but those that do wield influence far beyond their numbers.

Just like giant tech companies.
