Democratic Massachusetts (pardon the redundancy) Attorney General Maura Healey recently suggested that it would a good thing if rioters burned America to the ground over the death of George Floyd at the hands (and knee) of a white police officer.
In a speech to the Boston Chamber, during a virtual Government Affairs Forum, Healey said: “Yes, America is burning. But that’s how forests grow.” She subsequently tweeted out the same message. She probably thought she had hit on a clever bon mot. In truth, it was a non sequitur. Nations are not forests. And it is our soul that is being consumed. Souls do not regenerate like plant life, Ms. Healey.
It is preposterous—and sadly illustrative—that an Attorney General could advocate wholesale chaos and the methodical destruction of the world’s preeminent example of government of, by, and for the people under the rule of law. To leftists, the law is only a means to an ends-- and only what they say it is. It is not an instrument of adjudication and fairness. It is not put in place to engender and ensure a civil society. It is simply a tool to be used to secure and enhance their own power.
Progressives/leftists/liberals, whatever one wants to call them these days, don’t give a rat’s ass about fairness. Even as they protest the sadistic Minneapolis cop putting a knee on the neck of George Floyd, they are eager as hell to put a knee on the neck of anyone that disagrees with them…and on the neck of the country that, more than any other, protects their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
