Great
news, Americans! Not only is the stock market at an all-time high, so is
support for polygamy! A recent Gallup poll on American values and beliefs found
acceptance of multiple spouses is now the highest on record, with 17% of
respondents saying the practice is “morally acceptable.” Experts caution that
determining the exact cause of the
trend is difficult. There has, of course, been a rapid and general increase in “liberal”
views on social issues such as same-sex relationships and premarital sex.
However, one Gallup analyst notes that support for polygamy in the U.S. has
risen by nearly 10 percentage points in
just the seven years the TLC show “Sister
Wives” has been on the air. (If that pace continues, by our tricentennial,
everyone in America will declare polygamy to be a right granted to us by our
Creator).
It wouldn’t be the first time
that the boob tube has helped change American values. The NBC sitcom Will & Grace featured several gay
characters and is often credited with shifting American’s attitudes on gay
rights. And there are numerous other examples.
The unprecedented general
increase in progressive views on social issues in America has been proceeding
apace for over 50 years now. While television has certainly played its part, so
has academia, the mainstream media, Hollywood in general, and the
ever-emboldened special-interest groups themselves.
I have no doubt that if
Americans were now more thoroughly polled, their acceptance of pedophilia,
frotteurisme, zoophilia, necrophilia, urophilia, klismaphilia, coprophilia, incest,
and auto-erotic asphyxia would be the highest ever on record, as well.
Tolerance, diversity, and inclusiveness good! Judgement, values,
and virtues bad!
