Bill Nye, The Pseudo-Science Guy

                Bill Nye, the Pseudo-Science Guy, is at it again. He is currently hosting a series on Netflix titled, “Bill Nye Saves the World.” A tad grandiose, no? Certainly not scientifically correct. Was “Chuckles the Clown” unavailable? Oh, and I thought Barack Obama already saw to that.

                At any rate, Nye recently contemplated the question: should people be penalized for having “extra” kids? In some respects, they already are, but let’s proceed anyway. Nye posed the question to a bioethicist at prestigious Johns Hopkins University, who replied, “I do think that we should at least consider it,” to which Nye responded, “Well, ‘at least consider it’ is like ‘do it.’”

                Bill Nye, the Eugenics Guy. And “bioethicist?” No one should be allowed that title if they believe they have the right to control the size of other people’s families. P.J. O’Rourke, in his seminal 1994 book, “All the Trouble in the World,” sub-titled his chapter on overpopulation: “Just Enough of Me, Way Too Much of You.” Pithy and perfect.

                Why ‘do it?’ Why penalize Americans for having more kids? They theorize that big American families may be hurting the environment. That’s funny. There aren’t many large American families. We are barely at replacement fertility levels. What about big Muslim families or large families from other places around the world? Are they not detrimental to the environment?

                That same “bioethicist” stated: “One of the things that we could do that’s kind of (at) least policy-ish is we could encourage our culture and our norms to change, right?” They haven’t been? Have you noticed the difference in, say, television programming over the last number of decades? We’ve gone from “Father Knows Best” and “Gunsmoke” to “Game of Thrones” and “The Bachelorette,” at the same time our average family size has shrunk considerably.

                What bureaucrat, or group thereof, will decide how many kids a couple can have? Would the number be different based on race, ethnic group, creed, religion, or occupation? Perhaps political affiliation? There’s an intriguing thought! Or maybe we’d just use the old Chinese model and catapult the vast majority of girl babies into a swamp? And I thought liberals wanted to get the government out of our bedrooms, wombs, sexual lives? Either progressives have no conscience, are duped by "con"-science, or both. 

                How would non-compliers be penalized? Would they have their gonads summarily removed with a salad fork? Or just be forced to binge-watch MSNBC? After all, fake science is now “real” news.

                What would the founders say? And, speaking of Founders, didn’t God tell us to “Go forth and multiply?”

                But Bill knows better.

                He’s going to save the world.
