Hofstra Student Demands Jefferson Statue Be Removed

                JaLoni Owens, the student that led the effort to have the statue of Thomas Jefferson removed from Hofstra University, is throwing an epic—and mind-bogglingly preposterous—hissy fit because the school’s president didn’t reflexively cave in to her demands.

                In a recent op-ed she penned for The Hofstra Chronicle (on newsstands now!), Owens appeared gob-smacked that President Stuart Rabinowitz had the unmitigated gall to possess an opinion differing from her own.

    According to The College Fix, she wondered what might bring him to his senses. Will it be “[Jefferson’s] repeated rape of multiracial slave Sally Hemmings?” she asked. Or perhaps his “documented calls for the genocide and mass murder of enslaved populations?” His role in “sustaining slavery in America and having owned over 600 slaves over the course of his lifetime?”

                Ms. Owens was utterly unsatisfied when President Rabinowitz stated, at an April 25^th town hall meeting, that “every single student on this campus” mattered to him in response to Owens asking him what students of color have to do to feel as “valued” as their white peers. This remark was so offensive to Owens and her friends, in fact, that they stood up, turned their backs (and butts) to the university’s president, and held up signs reading “Black Lives Matter! Does Hofstra agree?”

                To which Rabinowitz replied: “I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say Black Lives Matter applies to the Jefferson statue. Secondly, of course black lives matter, and thirdly, this doesn’t add to the conversation. I am certainly dumbfounded as to what you really want to accomplish. If you really want to accomplish something, why don’t you talk to us and not turn your back on us and hold up a sign and remain mute? Free speech is free speech, but on a pragmatic matter … It’s not gonna get the statue removed.”

                At this, Owens came unhinged. She called the president’s remarks “condescending” and “invalidating.” She said Rabinowitz “has absolutely no idea what it is like to be black, a woman and unapologetic about those identities.” She averred that his comments filled her with such anger she “was unable to process to an extent that permitted [her] to write about it until this week.”

                She continued, foaming at the mouth/pen/keyboard: “President Rabinowitz has no idea how traumatizing it has been for me to force myself to abide by respectability politics because as my pain and its validity is labeled divisive and misdirected, is the lede of journalism course assignments, is the subject of academic papers and is the motivation behind social media posts labeling me a terrorist.”

                Huh?!?

                And she continued continuing: “President Rabinowitz has no idea how exhausting it is to lose sleep and to struggle to eat because even though you know that you are on the right side of this issue, you have been so conditioned by American society to feel guilty about being black, about the discomfort your skin color arouses in white people, about vocalizing distress when racism is too much to handle that day and about telling your peers or your professors ‘that is not funny’ when your oppression becomes the joke.”

                Tragically, she still wasn’t done: “President Rabinowitz has no idea what it is like to be chased out of your chosen field of study because of the pervasiveness of racism and misogyny within that department, to then report these experiences to a dean of that college and be told that one of the professors who made you feel so vulnerable and inadequate is going to be promoted rather than disciplined and to now anxiously await a meeting with Community Standards because my social media post accusing a professor of racism garnered more attention than my social media posts about experiencing racism.”

                Ms. Owens eventually concluded her excruciatingly emotive rant, stating that Rabinowitz needs to “do his job” and rid the campus of Jefferson’s statue.

                Thomas Jefferson did not call for the genocide and mass murder of enslaved populations. He is on record countless times disparaging slavery and attempting to find ways to end it. He treated his own slaves comparatively well, considering them more like extended family members. He did not “rape” Sally Hemmings, at least not in the context in which the term was used at the time. If he did father children by her it was from a misplaced form of affection. She was his “favorite.”

                It is, unquestionably, traditional conservatives who are discriminated against on college campuses today. They are routinely mocked, shunned and even assaulted. They are prevented from speaking and blamed for the violence committed by those who mock, shun and assault them. Conservative groups are banned or shut down. Their signs or banners are summarily removed or destroyed. Christianity is openly ridiculed, while “Anal Sex Workshops” are promoted. White males and masculinity in general are continuously denigrated, yet “transgenders” are permitted to use the bathrooms and locker rooms of their choice and the LGBTQIA community is embraced (and feared). There are more women than men on college campuses today. In matters of potential harassment, women are believed no matter what, total lack of evidence be damned. Innocent men’s lives are ruined and they are forced off campus. Women and—especially-- people of color are given preferential treatment, via Affirmative Action, quotas, adjusted standards and omnipresent politically correct pressure.

                Thomas Jefferson did more to free (the vast majority of) people around the world from slavery than anyone who has ever lived. Period. He wrote the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming to all: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Natural Law asserts that no person or group of people, i.e. government, has the right to arbitrarily enslave any other person or group of people…because the Creator has imbued them with intrinsic worth and freedom, a Law which supersedes any man can enact. This is the one and only idea that simultaneously protects every human being from coerced servitude while also attributing to them divine worth. Slavery was anything but unique to America. Jefferson wanted to end it in a way that did not rip his country apart or leave the emancipated in chaos and despair. The United States did end slavery. Nearly 600,000 souls died in the effort. Billions are still enslaved around the world today, in various ways.

                Jefferson once said, “I have sworn on the Altar of God, eternal hostility to all forms of tyranny over the minds of man.”

                By contrast, JaLoni Owens revels in the self-imposed tyranny with which she has victimized herself. She refuses to be anything but a victim. She marinates in her own bitterness, wallows in every perceived slight, and steadfastly, pathetically, refuses to acknowledge the obvious (self-evident?). By so openly seeking to have the Jefferson statue removed from her sight, she surreptitiously tries to erect a figurative statue to herself, a helpless, virtue-signaling, oppressed heroine of the aggrieved. She is the anti-Frederick Douglas. It is easier to attack Clarence Thomas than to equal his achievements. It is easier, even, to chastise Kanye West than to admit he may have a point. The contrast between JaLoni Owens and Candice Owens couldn’t be clearer.

                JaLoni Owens has tyrannized her own mind. She is a prisoner of her own device. She has systematically enslaved herself.

                Jefferson also said, “Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than that these people are to be free.”

                Jefferson, Lincoln and many others have done what they could to abolish slavery, both of the mind and the body.

                It is now up to JaLoni Owens, and those like her, to set themselves free.

               

Facebook Follies

                London’s The Daily Telegraph reports that researchers analyzed the Facebook activities of a thousand Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) supporters in 96 countries and found that they were routinely introduced to other radical Islamists through the “suggested friends” feature. The massive social media entity has already been accused of failing to remove terrorist material from its platform, while simultaneously barring or shadow-banning conservative content. Now we know it has been actively connecting ISIL cheerleaders with ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) wannabes around the world, aiding and abetting them in developing terror networks and recruiting new members to the cause.

                So, buck up Terry Terrorist! Reach out and touch someone Bob the Butcher! Let your fingers do the walking Mark the Maimer!

Minnesota State Senators Repulsed By "In God We Trust"

                Republican Sen. Dan Hall, representing Minnesota’s 56^th district, recently sponsored a bill that would allow schools to display a poster with the words “In God We Trust.” Hall told “Fox & Friends” that he hoped the proposed bill, which would utilize private funds to pay for the posters, would help bring respect back to schools.

                “I only assume that if you take those things out of government, if you take the things that are respectful out, you’re going to put in something different. We need to bring respect back to our country,” Hall said.

                However, two of Minnesota’s Democratic state senators, Scott Dibble and John Marty, are strongly opposed to the bill. Both argue that the posters could be viewed as “offensive.” Certainly by Dibble and Marty: “The money in my wallet has to say ‘In God We Trust.’ I think that’s offensive,” Marty said on the State Senate floor, Fox News reported.

                The Dynamic Democratic Duo are also browned off that schools in Minnesota have to fly an American flag and are required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance once a week.

                Marty added that the presence of “E Plurubus Unum” on coins also “pisses me off,” while Dibble said he is offended by the word “Liberty.” Another Democratic state senator said that she was “outraged” by the term “Annuit Coeptis,” found above the Great Seal on American currency, though she admitted she “didn’t really know what it means.”

                The College Fix reports that the concept of “free speech” is so controversial on college campuses that at Harvard University (you may have heard of it) a student club removed the phrase from an event name so that it would be more likely to be approved by administrators. A Harvard Libertarian Club board member told the site that club members were “walking around eggshells” to keep its events from being shut down.

                In order to counter extremist narratives and authoritarian institutions, the club partnered with Ideas Beyond Borders to host an event, on April 19^th, defending human rights and promoting “the free exchange of ideas.” (I doubt they put “free exchange of ideas” on any material advertising the event, either).

   So, on today’s college campuses, a group needs to get “permission” to host an event discussing free speech, and to do so must avoid using the term “free speech.” God help us. Oops, sorry…can’t say “God” on campus. To wit (also per The College Fix):

  TFP (Tradition, Family, Property) Student Action, a national network of young Catholics, recently placed pro-traditional marriage signs at five “Catholic” colleges: Loyola University Maryland, Georgetown, Notre Dame of Maryland University, Villanova and St. Joseph’s. The group wanted to see what, if anything, would happen to the signs, which stated “God’s Marriage= 1 Man + 1 Woman.”

 On every single campus, the signs were quickly removed, trashed or vandalized, literally within a few minutes, mostly by students, some by faculty or staff. John Ritchie, TFP’s director of student action, said via interview with The College Fix: “When the signs went up…the reaction was immediate. I don’t think one lasted more than 10 minutes.”

TFP members later went back to some campuses and put up pro-gay, marriage equality signs. A news release from the group noted that those signs remained virtually untouched.

Matthew Miller, a TFP volunteer who oversaw the project, stated in that release: “Just the sight of the name of God and God’s plan for marriage is considered intolerable by students who think tolerance is a dogma.”

Every other society in history that has reached this point, this level of decadence and hubris, and that has ridiculed the very notion of God, has come apart nearly as fast as the pro-traditional marriage signs on these "Catholic" campuses.

If colleges still taught Latin and the classics, perhaps they’d understand the relevance of the phrase, “Et tu, Brute?”

Schools In The United Kingdom Removing Clocks

                Some schools in the United Kingdom are removing clocks from their examination halls and test rooms, because so many teenagers cannot tell the time, according to The Telegraph. The young scholars are having a hard time telling time?

                Malcolm Trobe, deputy general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders explained: “The current generation aren’t as good at reading the traditional clock face as older generations. They are used to seeing a digital representation of time on their phone, on their computer. Nearly everything they’ve got is digital, so youngsters are just exposed to time being given digitally everywhere.”

                After students complained that they were struggling to read the time correctly, instructors decided to install digital devices instead of taking time to teach the kids how to read a clock, the paper reported. Mr. Trobe told The Telegraph that teachers are keen to create a test environment where everything is as “easy and straightforward as possible,” noting that traditional clocks in examination rooms could be causing students unnecessary stress.

               “You don’t want them to put their hand up to ask how much time is left,” he stated. “There is actually a big advantage in using digital clocks in exam rooms because it is much less easy to mistake a time on a digital clock when you are working against time.”

                Everything traditional is under assault. Colleges are no longer teaching the classics, rhetoric, debate or logic. As a result, young people are losing their ability to reason and formulate arguments. Due to word processors and keyboards, many kids have lost the ability to write, particularly in cursive. (Though they have a dramatically expanded ability to curse). The beautiful art of calligraphy has gone the way of the dinosaur and dodo bird. Our youth spend so much time in front of televisions, computers, smart phones and digital accessories, they have lost the ability to interpret or extrapolate. Everything is spelled out for them, enumerated. They know only what they see in front of them. Unlike reading, which engages the reader’s mind, this screen-based “reality” tends to dumb them down.

                In some important ways, we are not evolving, but devolving. Not everything leftists deem as “progressive” actually is, just as not all change is progress.

  In matters such as these, it’s about time we turned back the clock.

              Before it’s too late.

"Can I Kiss You" Training

                Put this one in the “You’ve Gotta Be Kidding Me” file: The Pentagon has spent just short of $700,000 since 2009 training soldiers on when it is appropriate to kiss a woman, the Washington Free Beacon reports. Alas, it’s true.

                Author and speaker Mike Domitrz conducted “Can I Kiss You” training the last week of April in Fort Eustis, Virginia, instructing soldiers to ask a woman for permission before kissing her at the end of a date, “no matter what.” Domitrz works with the Date Safe Project and traverses the globe “teaching” people about consent. The DSP has received contracts from the Pentagon totaling $697,627 since 2009. The Fort Eustis event was part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and was intended to spark “a conversation about relationships and intimacy.”

                “Relationships and intimacy,” that’s exactly the kind of training our military needs!

                “Did the training increase our efficiency, sir?”

                “No.”

                “Did it increase our readiness?”

    “Well, no.”

    “Enhance our fighting spirit?”

                “No. But, dammit, our soldiers are more polite and gentlemanly than an Ivy League ambassador at a chastity convention! They really know how to act around the ladies!”

                They shouldn’t have to worry about what might be a proper time to kiss a woman to whom they are attracted. At least not while in uniform. Putting women in close quarters with male soldiers, whether in peace time barracks or in life or death combat situations is a terrible idea and a needless distraction from the one vital job the soldiers should be tasked to do. Secondly, most women themselves would disagree with the mandate for men to ask them for permission before kissing them. I personally know many females that say, “If you have to ask…” or, “It spoiled the mood,” or “Next time just do it if you want to.”

                Thank God the social justice warriors weren’t around during the Revolutionary War, World War II, or the Civil War. We had real warriors in those fateful times.

                The famous V-J Day kiss, where the victorious, elated sailor grabbed a female stranger in a white dress on the streets of New York City, then bent her over and gave her a lengthy smooch, would be considered an “assault” today. (Yet, the U.S. still hasn’t brought Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to trial for masterminding the deaths of thousands of American citizens on 9/11). I guess that’s just what happens “as time goes by.”

Boy Scouts To Drop "Boys"

                Boy, oh boy!

    The Boy Scouts of America recently announced that its hallmark “Boy Scouts” program for males aged 10-17 will no longer be called…(the) “Boy Scouts,” as of February 2019. The iconic organization is re-branding it as “Scouts BSA,” as it embarks on a campaign of laser-focused “inclusiveness.” The group will accept girls going forward in its push to become more gender-neutral. Younger members will continue to be called “Cub Scouts,” while older ones will be known simply as “Scouts.”

                The group said, via a press release, that its “Scout Me In” campaign “reinforces that the mission and core values in the Scout Oath and Scout Law are welcoming, inclusive and foundational for both young men and young women,” according to lifesitenews.com. 

                The Boy Scouts started allowing openly gay male leaders in 2015 (what could possibly go wrong?) and began welcoming gender-confused girls shortly thereafter (“I’ll show you mine if you show me yours?”).

                In recent years, pro-family and pro-life advocates have distanced themselves from the Boy Scouts of America due to its policy of allowing homosexual scout leaders. (Proving the old adage: “You can’t separate the men from the boys.”). Similarly, many knowledgeable pro-lifers and devout Christians have backed away from the Girl Scouts of America for its affiliation with-- and support of-- pro-abortion organizations such as Planned Parenthood.

                According to the watchdog organization Girl Scouts, Why Not?, “The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) advocates for both contraception and abortion rights on behalf of its girl members, the majority of whom are minors.” Well, that makes good nonsense: an organization for young girls lobbying for…fewer young girls.

                Surely, this will spark other gender-centric groups to re-evaluate their membership criteria. There are lots of women’s-only groups out there, not so many for men. But, any men’s groups that do exist can easily be repurposed as men’struating groups. The National Organization for Women (NOW) can, with just the smallest of tweaks, become the National Organization for Whomever (and keep the same acronym). The Financial Women’s Association can morph into the F—king Whoever Association, similarly keeping its existing acronym. Acquiescing to today’s cultural mores, Girls Inc. will likely become Girls with Dinks. Girls for a Change will take on entirely new meanings, as well, while the group Girls Today, Women Tomorrow will almost certainly be renamed Girls Today, Non-Binary Questioning Pan-genders Tomorrow. The League of Women Voters (of the United States), also known as the LWV, could be more inclusively branded as the League of LGBTQIA Voters (LLGBTQIAV), which would also be a nearly unbeatable Scrabble™ play if acronyms were allowed. The YMCA and YWCA (Young Men’s Christian Association and Young Women’s Christian Association, respectively) will, together, naturally be henceforth known as the Indeterminately Aged All-Gendered Non-Denominational Cooperative, or IAAGNDC.

                The group formerly known as the Boy Scouts had a famous motto: “Be Prepared.”

                These days one must be prepared for anything.

                It used to be said that “boys will be boys.” Now the girls will be too.

Hate Speech Or Free Speech?

 College Republicans at Minnesota’s St. Cloud State University erected a free speech wall on which were phrases such as: “Defund Planned Parenthood,” “Support Our Police,” “Give Freedom A Chance,” “Make America Great Again,” “Support Our Troops,” and “In God We Trust.” Naturally, these abhorrent notions infuriated many of the school’s students, scores of whom confronted the College Republicans at a campus meeting called to address the “controversy.” The angry young scholars labeled the wall’s contents “hate speech,” and said that it “invokes violence.” The wall’s contents didn’t invoke violence, leftist students invoke violence. Leftist protesters engage in violence. One student even took to a microphone to state, “Hate speech should not be covered under the First Amendment. It should not.”

The crowd clapped and cheered.

The student continued, calling out to the crowd, “Is speech that invokes violence, is that covered under the First Amendment?”

“No,” many cried in response.

The tragic— and scary— crux of the matter is that, to leftists, “hate speech” is anything uttered or written with which they disagree. But, of course, that is precisely why freedom of speech is a must for a free and democratic society, and why the Founders enshrined it as a mandatory requirement for this republic. What if the reverse were true, and conservatives believed that any talk of atheism, abortion, gay rights, and transgender bathrooms was “hate speech” and should not be tolerated? What if the words “bunny” or “elevator” invoked violence in some folks? Should those words then be banned? If I were in power should I be able to label anything with which I disagree “hate speech?” Got it?

But, in reality, as of now, it is only leftists that are serially offended by almost anything, and who wish to ban words, thoughts or actions of all those that don’t think like they do. They wish to disparage—and destroy—tradition…all of the world’s hard-won historical blueprints and best practices for successfully moving into the future.

In doing so they mistake change for progress, and nihilism for enlightenment.

If they prevail, they will, ironically, sentence us all to a new Dark Age.

MSNBC Host Joy Reid Apologizes

                MSNBC host Joy Reid recently apologized for her anti-LGBT blog posts. To augment and buttress her public contrition, she invited LGBT-positive guests on her Saturday, April 28^th radio program.

                One of those guests was activist Brandon Wolf. Mr. Wolf informed Reid and her audience that “homophobic psychopaths” are “running the United States government today.” He also asserted that should Vice-President Mike Pence ever become President Mike Pence, he would put “gay people” in “concentration camps.” Here is Brandon crying wolf: “If Mike Pence, God bless him, ended up in the White House, sitting behind that desk in the Oval Office, he would have us all in concentration camps hoping to pray away the gay. That’s what we’re actually up against.”

                Actually, it’s not.

    It’s what those of us who don’t believe in gay marriage and all-gender bathrooms and locker rooms are up against. Conservatives are mocked, blocked, demonetized or banned outright by the giant social media gate keepers. They are routinely prevented from speaking on campuses across the nation, the victims of endless vitriol from “comedians” and entertainers, and singled out for baseless retribution by government agencies like the IRS. The mainstream media bashes those who don’t cotton to the “social justice warrior’s” every demand and whim, and some of us are even physically assaulted for having the temerity to, say, wear a hat stating, “Make America Great Again.” Schools indoctrinate our youngsters in the cult of “LGBT Pride” at ever younger ages. The rest of us have to call those obviously male or female “they” or “zir” or whatever else is in vogue at the moment, or risk being reprimanded or fined. Yet, you get to call us names. And you also get to prance around in special parades, in some cases genitalia bared for all to see, touting that “Pride,” while others give you a pass or applaud your every move.

  No, America and Mike Pence aren’t going to put you in concentration camps. Stating something so stupendously asinine only hurts your case…if that’s even possible here in the U.S., Mr. Wolf. Hitler did put people in concentration camps. Radical Islamists do stone gays to death. President Trump doesn’t and won’t and would consider the idea sick and absurd. So would a President Pence, you unprecedented fool.

Wolf tepidly tried to walk back his preposterous remarks the next day, tweeting: “For the record, I meant to say ‘conversion’ camps. But if you ask survivors of conversion therapy about their experiences...I’m not sure how far off I was.” He added, “Also, it’s Sunday morning and Mike Pence is still a homophobe.”

Perhaps Joy Reid experienced an abbreviated version of “conversion camp.”
