Autonomous: a) having the freedom to act independently, b)
having the right or power of self-government, c) undertaken or carried on
without outside control, d) existing or capable of existing independently, e)
responding, reacting, or developing independently of the whole.
Self-governing. Independent. Free.
Self-ruling. Sovereign.
Founding principles.
Quintessentially American traits. All of which are dying out.
Everything is conspiring to take
autonomy from individuals and grant it to governments and “special interest
groups.” Everything is conspiring to take autonomy from individuals and give it
to robots, cars, et. al.
Remarkably, willingly, humans are
writing themselves out of their own story. We are relinquishing our precious
freedoms to bureaucrats and machines.
Whether it’s individuals ceding
control of their life to governments or dictators, or the whole human race
stepping aside to let artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles take
over, the end result will be the same. We will become indentured servants to
the state, and Uncle Tom’s to our robotic masters.
Autonomous vehicles? I want
autonomous humans.
