Giving Birth In Massachusetts? Expect A Visit From Big Brother

 

The governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, is seeking millions of dollars to fund her proposed statewide postpartum home visits. The voluntary program would offer free home “visits” to every new parent, to screen for mental health issues and…and what else?

Over at Townhall, writer Amy Curtis, eschewing the first-person narrative, noted: “After this writer's second child was born, the city where she lived at the time sent a government employee to check on her. Tired, sore from the delivery, and home alone with a toddler and a newborn, she was too surprised by the unannounced visit to say no. But looking back, the whole thing was creepy. The woman walked around the entire apartment, even though her baby was sleeping in the living room.”

Creepy, indeed.

The “Welcome Family” program would be better branded as the “WTF?” program. Besides depression, what might a typically “progressive” government “visitor” screen for? A MAGA hat on a table? A cross on a wall? Lee Greenwood music playing in the background? You know they’ll be looking for firearms. And, what if a new parent’s laptop happens to be open to an article by, say, a "far-right" conservative?! Quicker than Michael Moore can snatch up a jelly donut, the baby in that home would be gone with the proverbial wind.

How many other government programs began by being “voluntary” or temporary and ended up becoming mandatory and permanent? A great many. And no problem has ever been made better by inviting government bureaucrats into our homes. (“I’m from the government and I’m here to help!”)

A better and more effective way to address the issue of growing violence being visited on babies and toddlers would be to truthfully face the devastating degradation of our culture, mores, and morals brought about by “progressive” big government policies themselves.
