Forget the “Bomb Cyclone” storm system that paralyzed large
swaths of the United States recently, it’s The Donald Tweet-storm that is really
wreaking havoc. After “Fire & Fury,” a self-proclaimed tell-all book about
the Trump administration was released Friday, a book characterizing the Trump
White House as out-of-control and Trump’s aides and cabinet as believing him
unstable and unfit for office, Trump hit back. Trump always hits back.
Though the book was written by an
acknowledged serial prevaricator, who himself admitted that not all of the
book’s anecdotes may actually have occurred, the president couldn’t restrain
himself from lashing out via Twitter, writing: “….Actually, throughout my life, my two
greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart.
Crooked Hillary Clinton also played these cards very hard and, as everyone
knows, went down in flames. I went from VERY successful businessman, to top
T.V. Star…..” he posted at 7:27 a.m. Then, at 7:30 a.m., he added: “….to
President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as
not smart, but genius….and a very stable genius at that!”
To paraphrase Billy Joel: “You may be
right, he may be crazy…oh, but it just may be a lunatic we’re looking for.” If
one looks objectively at the evidence thus far, that certainly appears to be
the case. A soaring stock market, economy booming, companies giving out large bonuses
and relocating to the U.S., illegal border crossings way down, North Korea now
apparently willing to talk to South Korea and participate in the upcoming
Olympics, black unemployment at record lows, etc., etc.
The book itself, which I haven’t read,
makes maniacal claims such as: “President Trump eats 47 White Castle sliders a
day…he bleeping loves White Castle. You know, ‘cuz of the whole White thing.” (This is likely no more
disingenuous then any of the book’s other claims. How it is allowed to be sold
as a non-fiction work is beyond me. Slander? Defamation? Misrepresentation?).
Here are some additional Trump Tweets
we can likely look forward to: “So, Sloppy Steve writes a book (who knew he
could read, let alone write!) too, just like wacky Wolff. ‘Fired & Furious’ sucks, that I can tell
you. Mindless loser Bannon’s tales are all bullshit! I’ve never even met Steve
Bannon!”
And: “The fake news media think I’m
dumb, but, like, I’m really, really smart. A genius, actually. They can’t stand
that I was a gifted student…GIFTED really, I have to tell you…and that I was
singularly successful in television…because I ALWAYS win, it’s what I do…just
like I did in business, too…won so big it boggled people’s minds…little minds
like Little Brian Ross at Failing ABC.”
And: “@Failing New York Times says I
eat 47 White Castle sliders a day! What total bullshit! I’ve never eaten more
than 22 of them in a day…that’s less than one half of what @Failing NYT’s
says…and probably not a third as many as Little Rocket Man could eat! #
fakenews.”
