White (Is) Out

The Pantone Color Institute selected “Cloud Dancer” as its Color of the Year, upsetting more than a few DEI-hards and assorted other insane folks. Why did this cause such angst among the Unstable Community? Because Cloud Dancer, as the name infers, is a shade of white. Gasp. Some color critics lamented the choice as bland, boring, and a literal “nothing” option. Others thought it racist and yet another sign of white supremacy. Let me guess, non-whites are somehow “disproportionately affected” by Pantone’s selection of Cloud Dancer as Color of the Year.

Never mind that Pantone chose “Mocha Mousse,” a rich brown hue, as last year’s Color of the Year. Or that it anointed “Peach Fuzz,” a warm blend of orange, pink, and cream the year before.

Pantone stated that Cloud Dancer is a nod to simplicity, relaxation and disconnection from overstimulated lives, and is considered a “blank canvas” by the company. Sounds to me like just what we need about now.

In what should have been an entirely unnecessary assertion, Laurie Pressman, vice-president of the Pantone Color Institute, told the Washington Post “Skin tones did not factor into this [choice] at all.”

But white is out…everywhere. Whether it is literature, teaching, or any of a myriad other professions no matter the industry, unlawful discrimination, the institutionalization of DEI, diversity mandates, and the like, are barring the door to white guys.

According to The Blaze, Jacob Savage, a Los Angeles-based writer, was told by a hiring editor, "For a typical job we'd get a couple hundred applications, probably at least 80 from white guys. It was a given that we weren’t gonna hire the best person. ... It was jarring how we would talk about excluding white guys." The problem is apparently particularly acute for younger white males. Despite the rapidly diminishing percentage of white Americans, the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities Campus), which was awarded $628 million in federal research grants in the 2024 fiscal year alone, is home to an anti-white research project that claims America is suffering from a "Whiteness Pandemic." The message is as clear as it is incessant: white bad. (And by extension, every other race is good, better, or at least not so bad. Imagine a university sponsoring a research project whose working thesis is that the United States is suffering from a “Blackness Pandemic” or a “Gay and Lesbian Pandemic.” Can’t do it, can you?)

So alright, I’ll play. If even the color—or word—white is so “problematic,” we have much work to do to rid ourselves of this oppressive stain. White bread, white wine, white meat, white gold, and white rice will all have to be renamed immediately. Or perhaps banned altogether. Henceforth there will be no more white-collar crime, no more white noise, no more white flight. White glove treatment will be a thing of the past. (It almost is already.) No one will be allowed to experience a white knuckler. Or say someone or something is as “white as a sheet.” (Doubly scary!) White pines will have to be renamed or eradicated, white lies rebranded.

The White House? Nope. Maybe the Mocha Mousse House in the future.

We certainly should not be allowed to celebrate a white Christmas.

And we may just have to remove white from the Star-Spangled Banner/Old Glory.

If they had their druthers, the one thing progressives would allow us to do is to wave a white flag. At least a figurative one.

This kind of rampant racism cannot stand if we are to hold this nation together. Those of us wearing white hats have to make folks understand that a liberal version of white man’s disease is rampant, a disease in which white folks effectively let themselves be aborted in a tragically misguided effort to salute diversity and appear tolerant and inclusive, competence be damned.

There is a pandemic extant. It is not one of “whiteness.” It is one of hypocrisy and immorality.
